Dear Friends,

As we bid farewell to summer, we’re excited to share the profound impact of our College Access & Success summer programming. At Mission Scholars, June, July, and August were bustling with activity! Here are some highlights:

College Transition Prep

Our incoming college freshmen engaged in a dynamic series of workshops tailored to empower their higher education journey. This included a transformative three-day study skills immersion led by Paul Rivas of SmithRivas.com, as well as an enlightening mock lecture and office hours series with Dr. Nicole Callahan, distinguished professor at Columbia University and a proud Santa Barbara local.

Career Planning Opportunities

To kickstart their professional journeys, our rising college freshmen also dove into our Leaders in Transition (LIT) program, attending our annual LIT Kickoff in June to engage with a vibrant career panel featuring professionals from Sensata Technologies, Cottage Hospital, and Mission Wealth. The Mission Scholars LIT Program promises ongoing professional growth and networking opportunities throughout their college experience. Check out Noozhawk to learn more about our incredible summer opportunities for our College Scholars!

College Application Guidance

and Summer Programs

Our high school summer programs were also bustling with activity! June kicked off with an immersive series of college application workshops. Our dedicated Essay Coaches, generous community members investing their time, have been instrumental in helping our seniors articulate their unique narratives in their applications. Additionally, a select group of our Scholars had the privilege to partake in life-changing summer programs. We are so grateful to UCSB’s Pre-College Programs, Pepperdine’s Youth Citizenship Seminar, and Launch Generation for generously providing full-ride scholarships, enabling our Scholars to participate in their enriching summer programs!

Corporate Partnership-Building

Our sincere thanks go out to Amazon SB for hosting a Mission Scholars Lunch & Learn in July. It was a privilege to share Mission Scholars’ history and success, and to watch a group of our Scholars practice networking with Amazon’s team. We’d like to thank Chris Saxton and the Latinos-at-Amazon group for sponsoring the Lunch & Learn and giving our Scholars a chance to dive into the tech world with confidence!

Summer 2023 was a profound transformation for our Scholars, and it left a lasting impact on our staff and volunteers who had the privilege of working alongside them. Our comprehensive programs would simply not exist without your steadfast support. Thank you for making this possible.

Thank you,

The Mission Scholars Team
