Dear Friends,

Navigating the career planning process is unfamiliar territory for many college students today, and it can be especially overwhelming for first-generation college students. Through a series of workshops, panels, and individualized guidance, the Mission Scholars Leaders In Transition (LIT) Program provides its Scholars with resources to pursue their career interests and encourages the development of new relationships to harness professional networks, increasing their chances of achieving post-college success. Currently the Leaders In Transition (LIT) Program offers career development training and internship support for 70 first-generation college students, and has a proven track record of success: 92% reported that they are on track to graduate college within four years 86% of college students secured a summer job or internship this past summer Mission Scholars’ college students completed their freshmen year at their respective universities with an average 3.5 GPA.

First-Generation College Student Panel

Recently, Mission Scholars hosted a First-Generation College Student Panel where upperclassmen, who have successfully navigated the challenges of being first-generation college students, shared their invaluable insights and advice with our eager college freshmen. This workshop showcased the incredible impact of mentorship in empowering our students to overcome obstacles, achieve their goals, and embrace the journey of higher education with confidence. Together, we’re creating a supportive and inspiring community that paves the way for a brighter future.
